The other day the mate and I spliced the ends of a new plasma line we’ll use for barge work. The line is braided twelve-strand and incredibly strong, and probably the strongest part of the splice is where we double the bitter end of the line back through itself, forming a sort of Chinese finger trap, and then weave the remaining lengths into the standing line. I love splicing like this – it is intuitive and it’s a relaxing chore for sailors who like to work with their hands.
